Recently, I had the opportunity to see an amazing show called “Circus in a Trunk,” performed by The Piccolini Trio, three exceedingly talented young people who are making a living clowning around.
This past weekend I ventured to BroNYCon at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC. I had been to conferences like GenCon and Comic-Con before, but this was different. Toy Fair is over. I saw over 1000 companies, and 10,000 new toys and my head is spinning! What were my favorites? Too many to mention in one short article. However, Kung Zhu looks awesome. Never heard of Kung Zhu? It’s the boys version of Zhu Zhu Pets.

Last week was Jim’s turn to be in Hong Kong, this week it’s mine. The trade show here is the second largest in the world, and it’s where the “toy year” officially starts. Many manufacturers started showing things privately in October, but here in Hong Kong at the amazing Convention Centre that juts magnificently into the harbor from Hong Kong Island, or in the hundreds of showrooms and hotel suites on the mainland, this is where the toys you’ll be trying to find ten short months from now start to take shape.

I took my three teenage daughters to Transformers screening. Two of them liked it better than first movie. It was non-stop action from the moment it started! I already need to see it again for all the little things I missed. My girls were questioning why Megan Fox is always scantily dressed, but Shia never removes his shirt. LOVE Sam’s parents, the Twin Bots are hilarious, and Optimus Prime rules! (Although my youngest will tell you Bumblebee rules)

There’s a new radio control toy hitting the shelves, and this one will have people talking. It’s called Duck Hunter, and it’s exactly how it sounds. I first got a chance to play with this toy when I visited Interactive Toy concepts six weeks ago. There’s a radio control duck that flies around and you use your infrared shooter to first stun the duck, and on the third hit, the ducks wings will disengage and the duck will fall to the ground.
