The LitterMaid is a litterbox that cleans itself and saves you the trouble of scooping litter. It rakes everything into a disposable waste receptacle, so all you need to do is throw the receptacle in the trash. You get the box itself, along with waste receptacles, carbon filters, a scoop and rake cleaner, a paw ramp, and an AC adapter to connect it to a power outlet. You also get an illustrated instruction booklet.

There is some assembly required to put together all the components. First, you need to prepare the waste receptacle by placing its lid on, sticking the filter to the lid, and sliding the receptacle underneath the compartment cover. Then you attach the paw-cleaning ramp. This attachment helps prevent your cat from tracking litter all around your house. Finally, fill up the litter tray until the litter level is between the minimum and maximum fill lines on either side of the box.

To get started, just switch on the power button and it begins cleaning automatically. The LitterMaid uses motion sensors to detect when your cat enters the unit. It will trigger the rake to push litter and waste into the receptacle 10 to 12 minutes after they leave.

You should remove and replace receptacles after seven days or less. LitterMaid sells replacement receptacles and carbon filters that you can purchase separately.

Should I get it?

Not only does the LitterMaid eliminate the need to scoop litter, it is also designed to reduce smells and mess. The waste receptacle helps trap and seal odors, where they are absorbed by the carbon filters. And the box has high side walls to keep litter contained inside and prevent tracking.
