Game lovers will flip over these two new games from Mattel. Phase 10 Flip uses double-sided cards so that you can flip the deck and go wild. UNO Flip Attack also has double-sided cards, and a card launcher with two modes.
If you’ve ever played Phase 10, then you’ll know that the object is to play cards from your hand to complete a phase and be the first player to complete all 10 phases. A phase could be two color runs of two, a color run of two and a set of two, or a color run of two and a set of three. Each player gets a reference card so that you don’t forget. Phase 10 Flip plays just like regular Phase 10, except that when someone discards a card with a flip symbol, they flip over the draw pile, the discard pile, and the cards in everyone’s hands. Now you’ve got to play with the Wild side of the cards, and on this side, each card can be any color you want. You only stop playing the Wild side and go back to the original side when someone discards another card with a Flip symbol. You can play the game with two to six players ages 7 and up.
UNO Flip Attack takes the fun of classic UNO and the UNO Flip card game, and adds the unpredictability of the battery-operated card launcher. This requires three C batteries, which are not included. Essentially, you play like regular UNO until someone plays a Flip card. Then the draw pile, discard pile, and the cards in your hand get flipped over to the Wild side. There are different action cards on this side, such as Hit 5x, Skip Everyone, Wild Discard All, and Wild All-Out Attack, that can help you but not be so much fun to the other players. For instance, Hit 5x means that the next player must hit the launcher button five times and add any cards that shoot out to their hand. Skip Everyone basically gives you a second turn. Wild Discard All lets you discard all the cards in your hand of one color. And Wild All-Out Attack means that one player is the target, while the other players take turns pressing the launcher button and giving the cards that shoot out to the target. The special cards aren’t the only time players are pressing the launcher. Any time you have to draw a card, you “draw” from the card launcher. Sometimes no cards shoot out, and sometimes a few shoot out. But things get really wild when the launcher flips to the wild side. Continue playing on the Wild side until another Flip card is played. The first player to get rid of their cards wins the game. (But don’t forget to call “Uno!” when you’re down to one card left – or face a penalty.) You can play this game with two to six players ages 7 and up.
