Weekend Box Office: Breaking Dawn Breaks A Record

Remember last week in this column, when I said that Breaking Dawn Part 2 hadn’t broken any opening weekend records? Well, it looks like the final Twilight movie was waiting for week two because the movie just broke it’s highest-grossing second weekend ever record with its $43.6 million.

Skyfall continues to do well and has blown past the previous record for highest grossing Bond movie ever. That record had belonged to Quantum Of Solace, which earned $168.4 million. Skyfall has already earned $221.1 million in just two weeks.

Lincoln had another strong weekend and is getting great word-of-mouth reviews, which should help it continue to perform well.

While the weekend’s three new movies – Rise of the Guardians, Life of Pi and Red Dawn – couldn’t budge the previous three from the top of the list, they did manage to bring in some big bucks over the weekend. Pi and Dawn exceeded expectations while the Guardians under performed. You can read Time To Play’s review of Rise of the Guardians here. Finally, look at Wreck-It, which had another great weekend. The movie has now earned $149.3 million and hopefully signals that more quality, video game movies will make it to the theater.

Here is the Top 10 for the weekend of November 23 – 25, 2012:

1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 ($43,641,448)
