This line of Matchbox cars includes the ’93 Jeep Wrangler #18, ’93 Ford Explorer #5, 2014 Mercedes-Benz G 550, Armored Action Truck, Armored Action Transporter, and the literal curveball, the Gyrosphere.

Right off the bat, what stands out with this collection is the immaculate paintwork. Look no further than the highly detailed paint job of the ’93 Ford Explorer for proof. This iconic design is flawlessly replicated at miniature size, with even the small logos looking crisp and instantly readable. And it doesn’t end there! Across the 6 vehicles, you’ll see different finishes on the paint, including gloss, semigloss and matte, sometimes all on the same vehicle! The sculpt work is just as impressive. Every inch of these vehicles is covered with molded detail like ridges, grills, spare tires, and much more. The armored vehicles steal the show in this regard. Not every single solitary detail is painted, such as with the headlights, but honestly the sculpts are so good, I give Mattel a pass here.

All of the vehicles with tires roll very smoothly and have defined hubcaps, which can be mesmerizing to stare at. The Gyrosphere deserves a special mention, because the internal seat remains upright when you roll it, thanks to some clever engineering and weight distribution. Another cool feature of note is the removable cage on the Armored Action Transporter.

Should I get it?

The molded detail, great paintwork, and screen accuracy make these Matchbox cars more fun than the average miniatures.
