Editor's Review
The Gel Blaster Surge XL is the mother of all Gel Blasters. The blaster itself is fairly sleek thanks to its thin design and white coloration, but it also has just the right amount of molded detail, plus gray and green accents to give it a futuristic looking flair. Besides the blaster itself, the full set includes a hopper with 1000 pre-hydrated gellets to get right into the action, 10,000 extra dehydrated gellets, a strap, a charging cord, safety glasses, an optional stock, and a velocity adjuster to change the blasting speed from as low as 170 fps to as high as 250 fps. A rechargible lithium ion battery is built in, and you need only charge it via the included usb-c cable. Make sure to keep the blaster dry to keep the battery safe! The Blaster XL has great hand feel and a satisfying amount of weight, in that it’s light and easy to aim on a dime. It’s also quite accurate, and we didn’t have any gellet jams while firing! You can switch between single fire, three shot semi auto and fully automatic.
If you’re tired of finding the right vessel to hydrate your gellets in, why not check out the Gel Blaster Gellet Depot? This vessel holds a whopping 10,000 gellets, and the best part is that it keeps them fresh for you! Add a gallon of water, drop in the 10,000 gellets, wait for 2 hours or more, and you’re good to go! Thanks to the lid, your gellets will keep for up to 3 months with water inside! Just make sure to drain any excess water before loading your ammo into the hopper. Be very careful opening the spout, it’s difficult to open with finesse. Perhaps tilt it back before opening to make sure your gellets stay IN the depot before you’re ready for them to come out! If it’s not in use, you can accordion it down into a very manageable storage size.
Last up, we have the Starfire Activator. This accessory replaces the feeding neck on a Gel Blaster Surge and exposes any special glow-in-the-dark gellets to an internal LED, which instantly makes them glow bright! No prepared light exposure required! What you do need to prepare ahead of time are 2 AAA batteries, as they are not included. Thankfully, dehydrated glow in the dark gellets are included.
