Can you escape the Enchanted Maze? Find out when you play this new game from Starlux Games. There’s a Hag in the maze with a glowing eye, and your goal is to rescue one critter of each color to cure her. There are three ways to play this game: solo, cooperatively, or as a competitive race, making the game suitable for one to six players. You set up the game by randomly laying out the six maze tiles side by side, and then place one critter on each critter circle that matches its color. The item cards get shuffled and placed facedown nearby. Then, you roll the die to determine where the Hag starts and where each player starts. Players take turns rolling the die and moving that number of squares, only stopping if they land on an item or critter that they want to collect. Any time you collect a critter, the Hag moves to your tile, and you must immediately apply any Hag gaze effect. The Hag’s gaze changes the maze, causing hidden markings to appear on the maze. Walls might open or close, or you might get caught. Roll the die to see what the consequence of getting caught is. If you’ve rescued one critter of each color, scoring depends on which game mode you played. In Rescue Race, the player to free the critters and cure the Hag first wins. In Solo Quest, count how many times you were caught for your score. And if you work cooperatively on a Team Mission, count every time the Hag caught someone to determine the final score. In this game, you will always save the critters, but getting caught even one time brings your score down. The game comes with a Hag, a die, six UV-activated maze tiles, 12 item cards, six player tokens, and 18 critters. Three AAA batteries are not included.

Should I get it?
We like that there are three ways to play this game and that the light-up Hag’s eye changes up the game board. This is definitely a game where the pieces could also be used to inspire some imaginative roleplay. There’s a lot going on in this game, so the first time you play, keep the instructions handy so you don’t forget important rules, such as not being able to rescue two critters in a row. Or maybe you’ll make up your own rules!
