Editor's Review
The Cat D11 Bulldozer is 3854 pieces, and will take the average builder 10-11 hours to build. Luckily, there are multiple instruction books, to break up the monumental task before you. The build, like with many technic sets, is complex, so take your time. Seriously, it takes 10 hours for a reason! Plus, it will all be worth it to have everything in its proper place. This behemoth takes 6 AA batteries, which are not included. Our reviewer recommends placing them in the battery case ahead of time, as it can be a little nerve-wracking to insert batteries after construction.
Once done, the Cat D11 is massive! LEGO keeps upping the ante with the size of their sets. The vehicle is a joy to look at. There is detail everywhere you look, from platforms, to railways, to an un-deployed side ladder, opening doors, and more; for real, this bulldozer is chock full of detail. As a display piece, if you can find a shelf big enough, it’s marvelous, and definitely one of the most visually pleasing sets we’ve ever seen, especially for a technic set. Now for the main event, download the LEGO Technic Control + app, open the door and press the red lever on the bulldozer. This detail is very nifty! Follow the prompts, connect, and wait for the (admittedly long) calibration sequence, and you’ll be ready to doze! The controls are complex enough to be fun, but simple enough to grasp immediately. You can adjust the blade up, down, forward and back, move the ripper up and down, and raise and lower the ladder! The Cat drives slowly but steadily, and has very responsive controls. It doesn’t roll on its own, but that’s totally understandable, given that it’s a construction vehicle.
