Editor's Review

If you like listening to music, then maybe you’ll like playing a game about music. Hitster Guilty Pleasures is the newest version of the Hitster game, and it can be played on its own or in combination with the original Hitster game. You’ll need two to 10 players ages 10 and up, plus a smartphone, the Hitster app, and a Spotify account.

There are 308 music cards with QR codes. You won’t know what a song is until you scan the code with the Hitster app, and Spotify will play the song automatically. Then you have to guess when the song was released by placing it in the right position of your music timeline. Once placed, flip over the card to reveal the name of the song and the year it was released. If you were correct, you get to keep the card in your timeline. Be the first player to get 10 correct cards to win the game.

Should I get it?

The songs in this version of the game are all what the manufacturer deems “guilty pleasures”, cheesy songs that people secretly love. The songs span decades, so not all of the songs will be familiar to all players, depending on the ages of the players. That is part of the fun, though, and maybe you’ll learn about new songs to add to your next playlist. As long as you (and the other game players) have a love of music (and are willing to download the free Hitster app and have/get a Spotify account), then you’ll enjoy playing this music trivia game.
