Weekend Box Office: When Lorax Attack

It looks like that little cutie (sorry Zac, I’m not talking about you) the Lorax, smashed all sorts of box office records over the weekend. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, from Universal, earned $70.7 million in it’s opening weekend debut, which is the most successful opening weekend for any movie so far this year. That opening is the second best debut for an animated movie that is not a sequel (The Simpsons is #1) and the sixth-highest debut ever for an animated movie. Lorax is the third highest-grossing opening for a March movie with Alice in Wonderland ($116.1 million) and 300 ($70.9 million) in the one and two spots.

Here is how the rest of the top 10 for the weekend of March 2 – 4, 2012 looks:

1. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax ($70,700,000)
2. Project X ($20,775,000)
