The Expendables 2, took the #1 spot in it’s debut weekend. Until seeing trailers for this movie, I didn’t even know that there was a The Expendables 1 and I love ridiculous action movies with lots of explosions. Judging by the cast, I bet my dad would like the Expendables movies. The Bourne Legacy, has less action and less explosions and is earning less than most of the previous Bourne movies but it still managed to take the #2 spot in it’s second weekend at theaters with $17.02 million. The other new movie to crack the top three was ParaNorman. The stop-motion monster movie took in a little over $14 million, which was about $2 million less than Coraline. ParaNorman looks good but I don’t get why the studio released it in August when October and Halloween are right around the corner. Hopefully my second-run theater will get this movie in mid-September, when the leaves are changing and people really want to see a spooky film.
There were two other new releases this past weekend. Sparkle rounded out the top 5 with a glittery $12 million and The Odd Life of Timothy Green managed to land at 7th with $10.9 million.
Here is the Top 10 List for the Weekend of August 17 – 19, 2012:
1. The Expendables 2 ($28,750,000)
