The Hangover Part II pounded $137.4 million over the long holiday weekend (the movie opened on Thursday) and earned the highest weekend gross of any live action comedy movie ever. Not bad considering that number two looks like the exact premise and plot of the first The Hangover movie.
It looks like Kung Fu Panda 2 couldn’t compete with the boozy competition because it earned nearly half what the Hangover did with an estimated $62.2 million over the four-day weekend.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides bobbed along and took in another $50.4 million over the long weekend. Stranger Tides has now earned $164 million in 11 days.
Bridesmaids caught another bouquet with an estimated $21 million for the four-day weekend and Thor rounded out the top five with an estimated $12 million for the holiday weekend. Fast Five continues to zip along taking in an estimated $8.2 million over the weekend and a grand total of $197.6 million in 32 days.
Here is the top ten for the Memorial Day weekend, 2011:
The Hangover Part II
Kung Fu Panda 2
