Weekend Box Office: October 7 – 9, 2011

Yes, it’s Tuesday but yesterday was a holiday so I’m just getting around to the weekend box office recap. I don’t know about your area but in my neck of the woods, the weekend weather was way too nice to spend in a dark theater. Fortunately for Hollywood everyone didn’t agree with me and audiences headed to the movies to give Real Steal a K.O. with $27.3 million earned. The Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots flick starring Wolverine beat the pants off of the George Clooney and Ryan Gosling political thriller, The Ides of March, which took in $10.47 million on its opening weekend and landed at #2. Dolphin Tale keeps on swimming in the top three with another $9.13 million and Money Ball dropped to #4 taking in $7.45 million. 50/50 rounded out the top five with another $5.65 million earned and The Lion King (3D) took a big hit with the Blu-ray of the movie arriving in stores last week.
