Get all the fidgety fun of the Lite-Brite Touch in a size that fits in the palm of your hand. Lite-Brite Touch Mini is a more portable version of last year’s Touch. Its 25 buttons light up in seven colors as you play through three games and create colorful, animated art. Three AA batteries are included.

There are two modes of play. In Create mode, simply press any button to change its color, cycling through all seven until you reach the color you want. Try to copy the design templates in the instructions or create your own light-up art. If you want to animate your creation, just press and hold any button for five seconds.

The second mode is Play mode, and it comes with three games. You can play Lite Tac Toe, either against a second player or against the Touch Mini. Lite Remember is a memory game where you match the color pattern shown on the screen. And the last game is Lite Dot to Dot, where you connect dots of the same color along a continuous path. There are 30 levels to beat.

The Lite-Brite Touch Mini does have sound, though it’s pretty low. If you need to switch off the sound, press and hold the top left and right buttons for five seconds.

Should I get it?

We liked the original Lite-Brite Touch, which already seemed pretty portable, but this smaller version is definitely much easier to throw in a bookbag or purse for playtime in the car, on a plane, or waiting in a doctor’s office. While the games are fun to play (though some of the “correct” answers in Lite Dot to Dot could be up for debate), we think kids will have the most fun just pressing the buttons to change their colors and creating fun art over and over again.
