The latest and last Twilight movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, took the top spot (shocker!) with an impressive $141.3 million. While that is a staggering amount of money it is not the best opening for the series. That honor goes to New Moon and it’s $142.8 million opening. Beyond the Twilight series, Part 2’s opening is 8th on the all-time highest openings list and 4th for 2012 (behind The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games). Breaking Dawn Part 2’s opening is a little surprising considering that this is the movie that the entire series has been leading up to. Maybe Twihards (is that what rabid fans call themselves?) couldn’t come to terms with the series ending.
Skyfall had another strong weekend and is already on track to be the highest grossing Bond movie ever. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which appears to completely ignore Lincoln’s vampire-hunting days, went from limited to expanded release and landed in 3rd with an estimated $21 million, while Wreck-It Ralph continues to do well and came in 4th. Flight rounded out the top 5 and we also have an interesting struggle happening at the bottom of the list with three movies currently tied for 10th.
