RayPong Game Review

Editor's Review
Raypong is a physically simple object, consisting of two one-handed controllers at the ends of a sturdy rubber cord. Use the included USB cord to charge the Raypong until the indicator light turns blue. This should net you a good 6 hours of playtime.
The Raypong boasts 5 different game modes based on reflexes, which you can cycle through by tapping the power button. In “Moving Target”, press the button when the white light overlaps the blue light. The blue area will change positions between wins, keeping you on your toes, but the speed of the white lights stays consistent. Next there’s “Charging Mode”, where you have to hold the button and let go to get the white light going. The longer you hold, the further it goes. Try to eyeball it and make it touch the blue goal. Two players can participate here by holding the sub controller button for 3 seconds. Go head-to-head and see who is more accurate. Moving on, we have “Bullfighting Mode”, where you must button mash faster than your opponent, and force the light to their side like a reverse tug of war. Next is “Snake Mode”, which gets back to basics by needing you to press the button in between the blue light goalposts. Lastly, we have “Pingpong Mode”, which is the mode I was most excited for, but also the one I was most perplexed by. It functions as you’d expect, with both players pressing the button to fire the red light back and forth, but one player fires the light back faster than the other at a consistent rate. Not sure if this was intentional or not. The instructions insinuate that the longer you wait to hit, the faster it will be sent back, which would make for a nice risk/reward mechanic. Ultimately though, based on observation, it just seems like player 2 hits faster than player 1, on average. Also, we say the word “insinuate” very intentionally, as the instructions are not very grammatically sound.

Should I get it?
If you can overlook the quirks of the Pingpong Mode and the oddly worded instructions, there is something to enjoy here. Households with siblings will get more utility out of it.
Pros
- It has a rechargeable battery, and includes the changing cable.
- The lights are bright and easy to follow.
- A full change nets you 6 hours of playtime.
- It has two-player modes.
Cons
- The Pingpong mode seems mis-calibrated to favor player 2 slightly.
- The instructions are not clearly written.
