What It Is
What It Is
Phone Frenzy is a game that starts with the assumption that virtually everyone today has a cell phone—and now it can be integrated into a party game. The object of the game is to collect four different cards: Team Challenge, Who Knows?, Buzz!, and Showdown. In order to get the cards, you have to get answers to questions. To get the answers, players use their personal cell phones to either call or text other people. You can only call or text people who are already in your phone's contact list, and you can only call or text a contact once during the game.
The game is played in teams. On each turn, a player from one team chooses a challenge card. For a Team Challenge card, all players on both teams text their contacts asking a question such as "What famous person do I look like?" The first team to receive three correct responses wins that challenge. For a Showdown card, a single player from each team calls a contact and asks the contact to name a price to hypothetically do something outrageous. Each contact must give a specific monetary amount. The lowest amount wins the challenge. For a Who Knows? card, a single player calls a contact who must correctly answer a question before time runs out. For a Buzz! card, a single player calls one person and tries to complete the challenge before time runs out. Players cannot tell the contact they are playing a game until time has expired.
The game comes with a game board, 110 cards (divided into four categories), a sand timer, 40 contact sheets, and instructions. Phone Frenzy is for two or more players, and we think it's best when played with many players.
Why It’s Fun
There's a lot of calling and texting in this game, but today's kids live on the phone, so the gameplay should be easy for them. This game is a little like the "phone a friend" option from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? You don't have to know the answers, but you better hope your contacts do.
Who It’s For
Phone Frenzy is for ages 14 and up.
What to Be Aware of
You'll need to make sure your phone is on speaker so that everyone can hear and make sure you're getting the right answers from whomever you called.
You'll need to have a pretty large phone calling and texting plan in order to play this game.
