What It Is

What It Is

With the Remote-Control Machines set, kids can build motorized vehicles and machines and control them with a wireless remote control unit. It comes with a 48-page manual that guides kids in the building process. Each of the steps in building the models is accompanied by explanations of the operating principles covering each of the components—remote control, gears, and batteries. The language in the guidebook makes complex ideas accessible to kids.

The six-button infrared, touchpad remote allows kids to control three motors simultaneously, moving each of them forward or in reverse. The three motors can be combined to make complex vehicles and machines in numerous configurations.

Assemble ten models demonstrating different ways in which the motors can be used including a bulldozer, car, three-wheeler, crane, antique car, plow, folding car, formula one racer, three-blade dozer, and robotic arm.

The kit comes with three motors, remote control unit, battery holder, and building blocks. The 182 building pieces included in this set are compatible with those in all Thames & Kosmos Construction Series kits, Physics Series kits, Wind Power kits, and Hydropower kits.

Why It’s Fun

This set offers a rich building experience, combining great creative play with comprehensive learning about motors and design. Kids will like building and creating their own vehicle or machine and then being able to play with it using the touchpad remote control. After they build the models in the instructions, they can go on to design their own remote-control creations.

Who It’s For

The Remote-Control Machines set is for ages 8 and up. It is ideal for kids who love building and who have an interest in science and mechanics, but there's enough versatility and engagement built in so that even kids who have only a casual interest in the science will have a great time building these models.

What to Be Aware of

The Remote-Control Machines set requires five AA batteries: three in the finished vehicle/machine and two in the remote control. These are not included.
