It looks like Paramount’s decision to push back G.I. Joe: Retaliation was a good one because the movie had a great opening weekend and easily took the top spot on the Weekend Box Office List. The Joes took in an estimated $41.2 million over the weekend plus another $10.5 million on Thursday, which is slightly less than G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘s $54.7 million opening in 2009. Box Office Mojo has an interesting fact on Retaliation’s opening for it’s three biggest stars – Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis. This is Tatum’s third-highest opening, second-highest for Johnson and, most surprising of all, it’s Bruce Willis’ best opening ever.
The Croods had another strong weekend with $26.5 million in it’s second weekend out and took the #2 position. Tyler Perry’s latest movie, Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor opened in 3rd and the weekend’s other new release, The Host, flopped into 6th with $11 million.
Here is The Top 10 for the weekend of March 29 – 31, 2013:
