The Big Wedding took the #1 spot at the box office…just kidding! Iron Man 3 obliterated all competition in it’s opening weekend here in the States with an estimated $175.3 million.
Iron Man 3‘s $175.3 million makes it the second highest opening ever, behind last year’s The Avengers, which took in $207.4 million. Iron Man 3 blasted past Iron Man 2‘s opening ($128.1 million), which is extremely impressive because most sequels tend to earn less than their previous movies. Iron Man 3 should continue to do well and doesn’t have any real competition until May 15, when Star Trek Into Darkness opens.
Pain and Gain, 42 and Oblivion took the next three spots on the Top 10 list and The Croods, rounded out the Top 5. To date, The Croods has earned an impressive $168.7 million.
