Thanks to the President’s Day holiday, today feels like a Monday so lets take a look at the weekend box office recap. A few new movies made their debuts and some did better than others.
A Good Day to Die Hard, did ok and barely took the top spot on the list. So far, the latest in the Die Hard series is way off from the last movie’s (Live Free or Die Hard) take but will probably end up being a success for the studio.
Safe Haven also had a strong opening weekend. The latest Nicholas Sparks book movie wasn’t able to beat the very successful, Identity Thief, but it is performing almost as good as the highest grossing Sparks movie, Dear John.
The final new movie with something to brag about today is Escape From Planet Earth. The animated movie had a strong opening weekend, which is probably due in part to it’s being one of the only new family-friendly movies to open yet in 2013.
Now for the bad news. Beautiful Creatures bombed and opened in 6th place. I think this movie looks like it could be good but unfortunately for Warner Bros., I’m not the target audience – tweens and teens. It looks like the target audience disagrees with me (I’m ok with that) and decided that even they have had enough supernatural teen love stories.
