Space Shuttle Launch from Student Balloon

The amazing picture above of last week’s final shuttle launch was taken from a helium-filled weather balloon at an altitude of more than 89,000 feet. The balloon, nicknamed StratoShuttle-1, was created by Quest for Stars, a California-based organization that works with students on balloon, space experiments.

StratoShuttle-1 was launched from the Seminole Softball Complex in Orlando, Fl, and was equipped with four high-definition cameras, three GPS devices, a video recorder and a complete avionics system.
