Yesterday at an event in New York City, Activision officially announced the new Skylanders game for 2014, and once again, they are redefining the category they created.
The new game is titled Skylanders Trap Team. Where past Skylanders games brought toys to life, Trap Team will literally bring life to toys. The game features an innovative new feature where players will be able to trap defeated villains in a real-world toy. Once a villain is trapped in the toy, that villain can be sent back into the game as a playable, good character.
Here is some additional info about this process from the press release:
The game will include the Traptanium PortalTM, a new ring of magical energy that enables kids to not only bring their Skylanders to life, but also magically capture villains using the new Traps. Once they’ve defeated the villains, kids will be able to place a Trap into the new portal to capture them. They will also be able to hear the villains inside the Traps, an innovation that truly brings life to toys.
Trap Team will see 60 new Skylanders figures, including the new heroes known as Trap Masters, brand new Core Skylanders characters and reposed fan-favorite Skylanders characters. There will also be over 40 elementally aligned Traps for capturing and storing villains. Finally, for the first time ever, Chaos will be a playable character.
Skylanders Trap Team will be available on October 5, 2014, for the Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. There will also be a completely unique adventure available on the Nintendo 3DS.
