You know how you share your Wordle score with everyone on social media? What if you got to compete against your friends in real time? Now you can with Wordle: The Party Game. You can play the game with two to four players ages 14 and up.

A game consists of as many rounds as there are players. In each round, one player is designated as the Wordle Host. This player picks a five-letter word and writes it on the Secret Board. (There’s a whole page of five-letter word suggestions at the end of the instruction booklet if you need inspiration.) Then, just like in the digital version, all other players write a five-letter word in the top row of their Wordle grid. The Host will then review the guesses and place green tiles over letters that are in the word and in the correct spot or yellow tiles over letters that are in the word but in the wrong spot. If a letter is not covered, it’s not in the word. Now players guess again, and gameplay continues in this manner until everyone has solved the Wordle or reached six tries. Then the Host awards points. If you guessed the Wordle, you get one point per try. If you didn’t guess the Wordle, you get seven points. Once you’ve played your designated number of rounds, add up the scores, and the player with the fewest points wins.

You can also play a timed version of the game, a fast mode, and a team mode.

The game includes three Wordle boards, three shields, a Secret Word Board, three dry-erase markers, 45 green tiles, and 45 yellow tiles. You will need to provide paper towels or an eraser for the dry-erase markers.

Should I get it?

If you’re a fan of the popular digital puzzle game from The New York Times Games, then you’ll enjoy playing this in-person version. It’s great practice for when you do go back to the digital version, but this version allows everyone the chance to play together and makes the gameplay more competitive, social, and fun.
