Editor's Review
Get a taste of outer space when you make space-themed candy with the Tasty Labs Space Gummy Candy Lab. The kit comes with four flavors of gummy candy mix (strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, and coconut), a plastic gummy candy mold, a cardboard solar system display, and 10 lollipop sticks. While the ingredients do not contain allergens, some are processed in facilities that also process allergens. You’ll need additional tools, such as water and measuring spoons, from home.Â
The instruction booklet walks kids through the steps of making gummy candy out of all eight planets, the sun, stars, a rocket, a comet, and a galaxy. You’ll combine the gummy mix with hot water, pour the gummy mixture into the molds, and let it sit until firm. You can even mix the four colors together to create more realistic-looking candy planets. Adult assistance is required. Adding the lollipop sticks to the gummy mix in the planet molds turns the candy into lollipops and also allows kids to display the planets in the solar system model. The instructions show in what order the planets go, plus fun facts about space.Â
Now, of course, kids can eat their gummy candy, but they’ll want to set aside some of it to experiment with. The second half of the instructions guides kids through four experiments and the science behind them, introducing kids to the phases of matter, acids and bases, and why gummies are gummy.
