Editor's Review
There’s a whole new way for kids to listen to their favorite stories: StoryPhones. These are wireless headphones with interchangeable covers, called StoryShields, that play stories and songs, offering screen-free entertainment for kids ages 3 and up. You can listen to stories from your favorite Disney movies and TV shows, such as Toy Story and Doc McStuffins. There are also StoryShields featuring kids’ podcasts, such as Hey Story Go!, and children’s apps, such as Lingokids. There are also recordable disks called PlayShields and relaxing audio disks called ZenShields. The StoryShield disks attach to the headphones via magnets, and once attached, the content is automatically downloaded into the headphone’s memory, allowing offline playback. (Depending on the speed of your wifi, the download could take several minutes.) Additional StoryShields, PlayShields, and ZenShields are sold separately.
You will need to download the free app and use wifi for initial set-up and any time you want to listen to a new StoryShield. From the app, you can manage your content library, update audio settings to protect your kid’s hearing, record your voice and edit, or upload MP3 files to your StoryPhones library.
The headphones themselves are foldable for transport (and there’s even a travel bag for that) and adjustable for comfort. The ear cushions are anti-allergic. There’s a large control panel on one ear piece for volume control and switching between tracks. A USB cord charges the headphones, and you get about 20 hours of continuous use. There is also a 3.5mm jack and cord. This cord also allows you to daisy chain two sets of headphones so two kids can listen at the same time. These can also be used as Bluetooth headphones, and an internal microphone means these can be worn during phone calls and video calls.

Should I get it?
We like the idea behind StoryPhones. Compared to other screen-free entertainment systems, this one is definitely more portable. The StoryPhones are comfortable to wear, and we like that they double as Bluetooth headphones so that kids can also listen to their favorite music. The sound quality is good, and we appreciate the app’s audio settings. We also like that there is a variety of content for kids of all ages.
