Looking for a starter scooter that your little one can zoom around on? Then make sure you put the Step2 Ride Along Scooter on your shopping list.  The Ride Along is for kids ages 1.5 to 4 years old and the maximum weight is 40 pounds. The Ride Along has two handle bars, a faux light , four wheels with molded-in wheel well details, and the vintage-style design includes faux chrome accents. The four wheels are there for extra stability. To put it together, you need a power drill to screw everything together even though the instructions said just use a screw drive. The seat is high enough for older kids to play with but, for younger kids, the seat is a little high.  However, our boys have figured out they can sit on the little dip between the handlebars and the seat. The scooter helps with gross motor skills, critical thinking, and sensory exploration. For gross motor skills, it helps develop coordination, balance and engages large muscles for walking, climbing, running, and lifting. For critical thinking, the Ride Along teaches kids to examine situations, make observations, and solve problems. And for sensory exploration, kids can use their five senses to make sense of the world around them. The scooter is very easy to clean. You can use disinfectant wipes or any household cleaners to make sure it’s spick and span. While this is supposed to be used outside, don’t leave it out in the rain as we had to drain the water from the handlebars and it wasn’t easy to do.

Should I get it?

This is one of our favorite outdoor toys. Riley is on the shorter side for a 1.5 year old but he was still able to use it and have fun with it in his own way.

Pros

  • Even though the seat is high, any kid can find a way to play with it and have fun.

Cons

  • Water gets stuck in the handlebars if you leave it out in the rain.
