Make math a game with new educational apps from Osmo. The Math Wizard line of games allows kids to learn math through physical game pieces that interact with an app.
Math Wizard and the Secrets of the Dragons is all about measurement, and more specifically, measuring and caring for dragons. The kit comes with a dragon guidebook, two rulers, and 62 food tokens, plus access to the iPad or Fire tablet app. You’ll also need the appropriate Osmo game base, sold separately. Use the included postcard to unlock the Dragon Reserve in the land of Mathemagica. Then search for dragons, use centimeter and inches rulers to measure them, and feed them food to earn merit badges. Through all of this gameplay, kids learn how to use non-standard units of measurement, how to use a ruler, how to estimate length, and how to add lengths.
Math Wizards and the Magical Workshop is an addition and subtraction adventure game. The kit comes with a mixing mat, two sticker sheets, a spell book, six counting rods, and 28 counting cubes, plus access to the iPad or Fire tablet app. You’ll also need the appropriate Osmo game base, sold separately. Use the included postcard to unlock Wyverndell in the land of Mathemagica. Then brew potions and fill up your spellbook with stickers, help dragons fly to unlock treasure, and build castles. All of this helps kids practice addition and subtraction up to 120, practice counting and place value, and compare numbers.

Should I get it?
We love the styling of the game pieces, more specifically, the dragon guidebook and wizard spellbook. These enhance the roleplay of the learning fun, and kids might even want to play with them off-screen. Most importantly, these games make learning math fun, especially for kids who think math is hard or are reluctant to learn.
