Travel back to ancient Egypt and uncover hidden treasure with the I Dig It! Treasure Egyptian Artifacts kit. The pharaoh’s treasures might be buried in the sand, but with the kid-friendly hammer and chisel, kids ages 7 and up can become archaeologists, excavating the site. Before you dig, the plaster block is decorated with hieroglyphics, and you must use the key in the instruction manual to decipher what they say. This also teaches kids about early forms of communication. Then, it’s on to excavating the block, which can be a messy process, so it’s recommended that you cover your workspace. The block contains four urns, an amethyst, an aventurine, and a sarcophagus. As kids reveal these hidden treasures (which may need to be rinsed clean with water), they can read more about them within the instructions.

Should I get it?

This is a fun kit that has kids feeling like real archaeologists. It’s a little hard to make out the shapes of the hieroglyphics, but learning about them might encourage kids to draw their own. We like that once the treasures have been revealed, the play doesn’t have to end because kids can use them for imaginative roleplay.
