The Creative Kit is the newest subscription kit from Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs. Ideal for kids ages 6 to 10, each kit is packed with creative activities that encourage imaginative play and artistic expression. We received the Flavor Chemist’s Ice Cream Stand Creative Kit for free to review. In this kit, kids will whip up wild ice cream creations, mix colors, top popsicles or cones, and boost creativity while dreaming like real flavor scientists.

The first step is to build the ice cream stand out of the included wooden pieces. Then, use the ice cream doughs to mix colors and scoop up flavors. The flavor dials will even help you name your creations. There’s an extruder for putting the dough into a cone, a mold for making popsicles, and additional activities to expand the creative play and help kids understand the science behind flavor chemistry.

You can order the kits through an annual subscription (paid annually), an annual subscription (paid monthly), or a quarterly subscription (pay every 3 months).

Should I get it?

This cute kit gets kids building and playing. Most of the assembly process was easy for kids, however, a few steps required adult help. We like how the kit ties the play into what real flavor chemists do, exposing kids to a potential future career – or at least helping them understand how their favorite ice cream flavor came to be. Maybe after all this pretend ice cream play, kids will be inspired – with adult help – to mix up their own real ice cream flavors.

Pros

New Creative Kit each month
Introduce kids to real-world STEM experiences through play
Inspire imaginative play

Cons

Not all of the assembly steps were easy
