Clue: Treachery at Tudor Mansion is an escape-and-solve mystery game that puts you into Mr. Boddy’s Tudor Mansion. You get to play as one of the six classic characters, although Ms. White is now Dr. Orchid, and all of the characters have an updated look and backstory. Choose your character and read the introduction on the insert card. This sets the scene for the game: all players have been invited to a dinner party, but you’ve all been brought together because Mr. Boddy is blackmailing you. When the lights go out due to a thunderstorm, you must work together to get the lights back on – but that’s just the first step.

Without giving away too much, you take turns moving your pawn to an unexplored number on the board and taking the card from the deck that matches that number. The cards might be puzzles, clues, narratives, items, or overlays. You’ll play through each room of the classic Clue game board, working together to solve puzzles and gather clues in order to escape the mansion and – spoiler alert – solve who killed Mr. Boddy, with what weapon, and in what room.

The game has a difficulty level of two out of five, and there are hints in the back of the instruction booklet in case you get stumped. As with all escape-style games, this game can only be played through once.

You can play the game solo or with two to six players. The game contents include: six plastic pawns, six game boards, two secret envelopes, one unknown object, 124 cards, and a rule booklet.

Should I get it?

Fans of Clue will like taking on the personas of favorite characters and immersing themselves in the gameplay. Yes, you can only play the game once, but if you gave the game to another Clue fan, he would still be able to use the pieces to play the game. If you’re an experienced escape room artist, you might find this game a little too easy. However, that 2/5 difficulty level makes this a nice introduction to escape room-style games, especially for parents who are playing with their kids.
