Editor's Review
Cardinal Classics Mahjong is a beautifully packaged version of the classic game. It’s also quite heavy. This is American Mahjong, a variant of the Chinese game of the same name, and it’s similar to the card game Gin Rummy. By choosing and discarding tiles, you’ve got to be the first player to match your tiles to a specific hand. There are five pages of instructions for the game, which can be daunting to newcomers. There is a Quick Start Guide, but you really have to already know how to play the game to understand that quick refresher.
The Cardinal Legacy Deluxe Mahjong comes in a beautiful box, but it’s the wood case inside that’s really impressive. The lined case houses the two-toned tiles and other game pieces. The goal of the game is the same as in the Cardinal Classics Mahjong game, and the instructions are printed up in the same way, too.
There’s also a Cardinal Legacy Deluxe Cribbage game that is packaged very nicely. It’s got a lined wooden case with a Cribbage board lid and colorful metal movers. The goal of this game is to be the first player or team to reach 121 points. You score points by trying to play cards that total 15 or 31. Keep score by pegging your mover along the game board’s track. You can play this game with two, three, or four players. The instructions for this strategic card game are a little easier to follow, so if you’ve never played Cribbage before, you won’t be too lost trying to figure out how to play.
