Another weekend has come and gone and despite three new movies opening and one old movie with a 100-year anniversary tie-in, The Hunger Games remained in the number one spot. That’s four weeks in a row and $337,070,000 in ticket sales so far for a movie’s whose production budget was $78 million.
Of the three new movies that opened, two did fairly well and secured the number 2 and 3 positions with The Three Stooges earning an estimated $17.1 million and The Cabin in the Woods taking in an estimated $14.9 million. The other new release, Lockout, landed in 9th place with an estimated $6.25 million.
That old movie with a 100-year anniversary tie-in, Titanic 3D cruised into 4th place with another estimated $11.6 million on the weekend that saw the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship, Titanic. With the 3D version’s $44.4 million earned over the past 12 days, the movie’s total gross has now reached $645,207,188.
