Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is already turning out to be one of the most talked about games and products of the holiday season. It also happens to be one of my Power Ups for the holidays. You can finally find out what all the hype is about because Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is in stores now!
Skylanders is the latest Spyro The Dragon game and it stars Spyro along with a gaggle of monster buddies in an action adventure story. The game is a blast but what is really unique about it is how you choose your playable character. Rather than just selecting one of the monsters on screen, you choose a real-world collectible figure and place it on a wireless peripheral (known as the Portal of Power) that instantly makes the figure’s digital character appear in the game. While playing the game, you will encounter obstacles that require you to switch characters, which is done by placing a different figure on the portal. All of your characters’ achievements in the game, including leveling up, acquiring items, etc., are saved and stored in the collectible figure and stay with that figure when it is removed from the portal.
One final bit of awesomeness, you can take your figure to someone else’s house and pop into their Skylanders game regardless of what game system they have. The figures work across all game platforms.
Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is out now. The game is rated E10+ and available for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC. Skylanders costs $70 but comes with the Portal of Power and three figures.
I’m working on my full review now, which will be posted on Time To Play when ready.
