Xbox just rolled out some awesome changes to it’s Xbox Live membership program. These changes will give users more choices and more free stuff. In short, if all you are using your Xbox Live Gold membership for is to access apps like Netflix or YouTube, you can drop the Gold plan and switch to a free one. Following are more details on the changes.
Now on Xbox One and Xbox 360, all Xbox Live Gold members can enjoy:
Free games with Games with Gold
Exclusive discounts on games in the Xbox Store with Deals with Gold
Multiplayer gaming on the most advanced multiplayer network
In addition, entertainment apps and experiences are now open to everyone, including:
Entertainment apps (e.g., Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO)
Gaming apps (e.g., Twitch, Machinima, MLG.tv)
Sports apps (e.g., MLB.TV, ESPN, NBA, NHL*)
Music apps (e.g., Xbox Music, iHeartRadio, Last.fm)
The only thing that you need to enjoy the above apps is an Xbox and a free Xbox Live Account. If you currently have a Gold membership and want to cancel it, you can and will be reimbursed for unused remaining days. Check out the Xbox Support page (by clicking here) for all the fine print about reimbursements and more details.
