Box Office, Transformers 4 Blasts The Competition

The Autobots (with help from the Decepticons) transformed and rolled out to a record-breaking opening over the weekend. Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth installment in the Michael Bay franchise, took in $100 million, which is the most successful opening of 2014, and the only movie yet to earn $100 million in its opening weekend.

Sequels dominated the Top 5 with 22 Jump Street in 2nd, How to Train Your Dragon 2 coming in 3rd and Think Like a Man Too taking the #4 spot. The only non-sequel was Maleficent, which rounded out the Top 5. Maleficent crossed the $200 million mark and is now Angelina Jolie’s highest-grossing live-action film ever.
