Neighbors exceeded expectations in its opening weekend and destroyed the competition. The R-rated comedy starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron took in $51.1 million, which is one of the best opening weekends ever for an original, R-rated comedy. Neighbors bumped The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from its #1 position, which it only held for one week. Thats a bit shocking for a summer, big-budget action flick with one of the most recognizable characters on the planet. Spidey was bookended by comedies with The Other Woman in 3rd in its third weekend in theaters.
Heaven Is for Real came in #4 with another $7.0 million earned in it’s fourth weekend. Rounding out the Top 5 was another highly recognizable character, Captain America. Cap and The Winter Soldier added another $5.6 million to its cumulative, which is now approaching $250 million and has become the highest-grossing April release ever.
TTPM has been reviewing the toys from both Marvel movies. You can see our Captain America reviews here and Spider-Man 2 reviews here.
