Four new movies opened over the weekend and the clear winners were Ride Along and The Nut Job. Ride Along, the Kevin Hart/Ice Cube comedy, opened in 1st with $41.2 million and The Nut Job, the family-friendly, animated comedy opened in 3rd with $20.6 million. That’s the highest opening ever for a movie from Open Road Films whose recent duds included last November’s Free Birds.
The weekend’s losers included the fifth Jack Ryan movie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which opened in 4th with $17.2 million and Devil’s Due, which bombed in 7th place with $8.5 million. Note to Hollywood, we’ve had enough of the “Found Footage” horror movies.
