Three new movies opened over the weekend and the only one that put up a fight with last week’s #1 movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was Rio 2. Rio 2 opened at #1 on Friday, but Cap took the title back over the weekend with $41.4 million for the Friday to Sunday period. Rio 2, which took in a respectable $39 million, ended up in 2nd place.
TTPM has been reviewing the toys for both movies. You can see the reviews for Captain America here and Rio 2 here.
Even if we combine the earnings of the other two new movies, Oculus and Draft Day (3rd and 4th, respectively) they still don’t come close to Rio 2. Divergent rounded out the Top 5 with another $7.5 million.
