Whether you’re looking for a drone built for racing speed and agility or a drone that lights up the sky, Sky Viper has got you covered.

The Type R is a performance racing drone that reaches speeds of more than 30 miles per hour. It gets such high speeds because it has a bigger motor than previous generations. That also means increased responsiveness and enhanced agility. It has two modes of play. Sport mode is for the casual flier or those who are just learning, while R mode increases the agility and responsiveness. This lightweight drone also easily performs stunts with the press of a button. Make it fly barrel rolls or do flips from a stationary hover. It runs on a rechargeable battery and comes with a USB charging cable.

The Nova FX drone also does barrels rolls and flips from a stationary hover, but unlike the Type R, Nova FX lights up. Six independently controlled LEDs within each propeller create organic patterns of color to flow across the surface area of the entire drone. Some patterns adaptively change color, shape, or brightness depending on how fast the drone is flying and in which direction. Or you can press the FX button to select from more than 25 light patterns. This also runs on a rechargeable battery and comes with a USB charging cable. However, the remote control requires three AAA batteries, which are not included.

Should I get it?

In our testing, the Nova FX was definitely better for beginner drone fliers. The lights on it looked cool, too. Just be careful if flying it in darkness.

The Type R was definitely faster, making it a little tricky to control. While both drones had a learning curve, the Type R’s was steeper. We’d recommend this one for someone who is more acquainted with drones.

But both drones performed cool stunts and were fun to fly.
