If you love cats – and dogs, then you might like playing You Gotta Be Kitten Me, a game of strategy and bidding. Your goal is to bluff players into bidding higher numbers of an accessory or color than is present at the table. There are three accessories – hat, bow tie, and glasses – and three colors – blue, pink, and green. You can see them on the cards – a puppy wearing blue glasses or dogs wearing pink hats.

You’ll need two to 10 players ages 8 and up to play, and the number of players you have determines how many scoring tokens and cards each player gets. Once the cards are dealt, keep them secret from the other players. To begin, the card dealer bids any number of an accessory or color. Play moves to the left, with each player either increasing the bid, playing a Krazy Kitty action card, or issuing a challenge.

There are two ways to challenge. If you think the bid is too high, you challenge “You Gotta Be Kitten Me!” If the total is less than the bid, the challenger wins, and the player who made the bid loses a card and scoring token. But if the total is higher than or equal to the bid, the challenger loses a card and token. The second challenge is Purrrrrfect!, which you’d call if you think the bid is exactly correct. If it is, you gain a card and a scoring token, while the player who made the bid loses a card and token. But if the bid total is greater than or less than the bid, you lose a card and scoring token. After a challenge has been completed, the player who lost a card becomes the dealer, and a new round is played.

Pay attention to Wild cards, which count as one of each accessory and one of each color, Double Wilds, which count as two of each accessory and color, and Triple Wilds, which count as three of each color and accessory. There are also those Krazy Kitty cards that allow you to skip a turn, draw more cards, or force another player to give you cards.

And if you want your own pets to be part of the game, use the eight blank labels to print out your pet’s picture, and add accessories with the accessory sticker sheet.

The game continues until one player remains with cards in their hand. That player is the winner!

The game includes 95 cards, including seven Krazy Kitty cards; four reference cards; 10 Purrsonalized card blanks; eight Purrsonalized card labels; an accessory sticker sheet; 60 scoring tokens; and instructions.

Should I get it?

We like that the game gets players using strategy and deductive reasoning. You’ve got to look at how many accessories and colors are in your hand and guess how many are in the other players’ hands. Is that player bluffing or telling the truth? The truth is that this game is easy to learn and fun for the whole family.
