Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Ghost Spider are lost in a moving maze. When you play Marvel Spidey and His Amazing Friends Labyrinth Junior, you can help the “amazing friends” reach villains, friends, and more by shifting the maze and earning tokens.

You’ll need two to four players ages 4 and up to play. To get started, shuffle the maze cards and spread them out face up on the free squares of the game board. One maze card will be left over, so just place it next to the board for now. That will come in handy later. Shuffle the round tokens face down and place them next to the board. Then, each player chooses a playing piece and places it on the corresponding starting space in one of the corners of the board.

On your turn, flip over a round token. It will show a character or vehicle from the Spidey and His Amazing Friends TV show. You have to move your playing piece to that character or vehicle in the maze. In order to move the maze, you take the extra maze card and move it from the side into the game board, pushing another maze card off the board. There are eight different spots along the edge where the extra card can enter the board. Once you’ve moved the maze, move your playing piece. Hopefully, you’ve moved the maze to create an uninterrupted pathway for your playing piece, perhaps a path that takes your playing piece all the way to its target. If you reach the character or vehicle on your token, you get to take that token. If not, move as far along as you can, trying to set your playing piece up for a successful next turn. But remember that other players will move the maze, too, and their movements could ruin your plans.

The next player also tries to reach the same character or vehicle on the token. A new token is only drawn once a player has earned the previous token. And when a player has reached the last character or vehicle, the game is over. The player with the most tokens wins.

The game comes with a game board, 17 maze cards, 12 round tokens, and four wooden playing pieces. While this is a beginner version of Labyrinth, the game instructions do include a version for more experienced players.

Should I get it?

While this is a “junior” version, it still requires a lot of strategic thinking and visual perception skills. There’s going to be a learning curve for young players, who will need help from mom and dad the first couple of times they play. But kids will like that the game features favorite characters.

Pros

Nice introduction to original game
Requires strategic thinking & visual perception skills
Features favorite TV characters

Cons

Learning curve for young kids
