“Snow Day”. Two of the sweetest sounding words to any school-aged kid. Even as an adult who works from home (no chance the office will close) and will be heading outside to shovel the driveway, I still love waking up to a good old fashioned snow day. But snow days can create a challenge for parents of young kids-who are unexpectedly home on a snow day-high and looking to be entertained.

After some well supervised outdoor play the kids are going to need something to do indoors so why not serve up some hot chocolate and try one of the following snow day approved video games?

Up first, is Family Party: 30 Great Games Winter Fun (Wii, rated Everyone), a collection of winter-themed competitions, activities and challenges for the Wii. Players select from over a dozen cute characters dressed in winter outfits and then head to the virtual outdoors for such winter games as a snowball fight, snow tube race, ice canoeing, cliff climbing, snowmobile rides and more. One to four kids can play the game together. Look for this game in stores now with a suggested retail price of $19.95.

Next we have Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games (Wii, rated Everyone), an official game of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, starring Nintendo and Sega’s iconic game characters. In the game, players will compete in 27 popular Olympic events as their favorite characters including Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog, Donkey Kong and more. This game, in stores now, is compatible with the Wii Balance Board and retails for $49.99.

Finally, for everyone who is sick and tired of the snow, check out the following trailer for Endless Ocean: Blue World (Wii, rated Everyone 10+).

Endless Ocean: Blue World will transport you to a beautiful underwater world where you will strap on your flippers and interact with the sea life. Look for this game in stores later this month (February 2010) for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
