Box Office: Wolverine Scratches Out a Win

The Wolverine easily claimed the #1 spot with $55 million but that’s way off of the last Wolverine movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which opened to more than $85 million. Most people hated the last Wolverine movie so it’s likely that those ill feelings carried over to this one. The Wolverine also seemed to lack the “Big Happening” feel at the theater that most X-Men movies have. The Wolverine is getting a lot of good word-of-mouth reviews so it will be interesting to see how it performs over the next few weeks.

Last week’s #1, The Conjuring, had another frighteningly successful weekend and took the #2 spot while Despicable Me 2 continues to fart blast it’s way into the records book. It is now the sixth animated movie ever to reach $300 million. Turbo is hanging in there with another $13.3 million and Grown Ups 2 rounded out the Top 5 with $11.5 million.

TimeToPlayMag.com has been reviewing the family friendly movies and toys based on the movies all summer long. You can check out these reviews at the following pages; The Wolverine, Despicable Me 2 and Turbo.
