What It Is
Every morning, Fred the beekeeper climbs to the roof of his Brooklyn brownstone and greets the members of his bee colony. His honeybees are busy bees — they tend the hive, feed their babies and make wax rooms for their “home.” They also gather nectar from blooming flowers all across Brooklyn so that they can make the honey Fred is famous for and which he removes from the hives and shares with his neighbors.
Is It Fun?
With summer in full swing, the bees are a-buzzing! This is a fantastic story that mixes facts about the lives of bees with the fictional story of Fred and his bees. The bees’ honey making process is fascinating and all will learn something from this fact-filled book. The oil-painted and collage illustrations give a rich texture to the pictures.
Who It’s For
This is a great book for any home or classroom and perfect for ages 4 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Fred makes beekeeping look so easy, that parents might want to remind their kids that beekeeping is a skill that requires education and training to do it right, and kids should still admire bees from afar ... very afar!
