What It Is
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is a 3D version of the 2010, Wii game, Donkey Kong Country Returns. Just like the Wii version, evil Tikis have hypnotized the animals in Donkey Kong’s jungle and forced them to steal all of Donkey Kong’s bananas. Players play through the side-scrolling adventure game as Donkey Kong as he tries to get back his bananas.
Is It Fun?
Players will have a blast climbing and jumping through the jungle with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, who appears throughout the game. Diddy is hiding in barrels and when he is found, he tags along on Donkey Kong’s back. In addition to the comical piggy-back ride, Diddy also gives players a boost when they jump because he is wearing a jet pack.
3D is a great format for recreating the lush, colorful and vibrant graphics that Donkey Kong Country is known for.
Who It’s For
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is Rated E for everyone. Kids that love Mario and other Nintendo character games will most likely enjoy this one as well.
What To Be Aware Of
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.
The game can be purchased as a standard 3DS cartridge game or downloaded directly to the 3DS through the Nintendo eShop.
This is a single player game, however, if two people own the game, they can team up over a wireless connection for a two player option. In the two player option, one player controls Donkey Kong and the other player controls Diddy.
Once you play all the way through, kids probably will be done with it, lowering our replay score slightly.
Like most of Nintendo’s side-scrolling games, the player does not have the ability to save a game whenever they want. Instead, players have to successfully reach the end of a level, which can take a while and prohibits this from being a casual game that you pick up and play frequently throughout the day.
