- Scribbo from Winning Moves Games
- We recommend this product for ages 10 and up
What It Is
Scribbo is like Bingo but with words. The object of the game is to score the most points at the end of the round. To score points, you form words on a game sheet. Each game sheet features two Scribbo letter grids and lines for scoring. Each space in the grid has a different number, and the numbers on each grid are arranged differently so that no player has the same grid, just like in Bingo.
To start, each player takes a portfolio and pencil. The first player calls out one letter and a number from 1–24. For example, the first player might call out "E-19". In secret, all players write "E" on space 19 on either one of their Scribbo grids. Keep in mind which grid will work to your advantage, as the goal is to spell words. Play then passes to the left with each player in turn calling out a letter and a number. After all 24 numbers have been called twice, the round ends. Players score for each horizontal and vertical word formed, plus any words on the long diagonals. Each player receives one point for each letter of every word created. Players may also earn bonus points if the total of all their horizontal words or their vertical words equals 12 points or more.
Instead of calling out a letter, a player can call out "Blank" and a number, causing players to blackout the numbered space on one of their grids. Blanks give each player the opportunity to create short words.
The center space on each grid does not have a number. Players may place a letter of their choice (or a blank) in each of their grid's center spaces at any time during play or at the end of the round.
Scribbo comes with four Scribbo portfolios, each with a pad of game sheets inside; four pencils; and instructions. It is for two to four players.
Is It Fun?
Scribbo is a fun game for those who enjoy Bingo and word games. Unlike Bingo, Scribbo brings strategic thinking into the gameplay because you have to fill in the spaces on the grid and create words at the same time.
Who It’s For
Scribbo is for ages 10 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Scoring can be kind of confusing, especially because there are so many rules regarding how to score. Make sure you read the scoring rules before you play the game for the first time so you can more strategically fill your grid and not miss out on points.
