Overall Editor's Rating

What It Is

Viva Frida by Yuyi Morales is a picture book about the life of artist Frida Kahlo. This book uses brief phrases to take the reader on a journey of self-expression. Frida Kahlo searches, she plays, she dreams, and she creates. All the short phrases on the pages are accompanied by their Spanish translations.

Is It Fun?

The colors are vibrant and the Mexican culture jumps out from the pages to really inspire the creative spirit. The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical with a creative spin inspired by Frida's work. We like the learning bonus of the Spanish translations as a way to introduce kids to Spanish words.

Who It’s For

Viva Frida is for ages 4-8.
