Overall Editor's Rating

What It Is

Toe Shoe Mouse is an endearing story about a sweet mouse who finds himself inside a grand ballet theater after being chased through the city streets by a scary cat. He instantly falls in love with the theater's plush surroundings and graceful ballet.

But the theater isn't the refuge that the mouse thought it would be. He's chased by a troop of sword-wielding soldiers and a custodian with a mean broom. He finds safety and comfort inside the dressing room of a prima ballerina and a tender friendship develops.

Is It Fun?

Little girls who are fascinated by ballet will love this book. The story and illustrations were inspired by the author's visit to the home of the Paris Opera Ballet. Author Jan Carr says, "One way to stay in a place, at least in one's imagination, is to write about it."

Who It’s For

Girls, ages 4 and up, will find the story and the illustrations of Toe Shoe Mouse engaging, endearing and highly imaginative.

What To Be Aware Of

The book makes a great gift idea for young dancers for recitals or the back-to-dance-school season.
