Aquabeads Starter Set Review (International Playthings)

What It Is

The Aquabeads Starter Set from International Playthings uses jewelry beads, a nifty beading tool, and a spray of water to create fun beaded creations without the need for heat or glue. Directions are stand-forward. Grab the base tray and choose from one of the five included design templates to create a beaded snake, toucan, frog, or even a cupcake. Lay the template in the base tray and place the layout beading tray over it. Both feature groves that interlock to fit securely together without moving around.

Then it's beading time. Grab the beading pen and press it down over a bead to grab hold on it. When you are ready to place it, press the button on the side of the pen to make the bead pop out. You can also use your fingers to place the beads as well but for some of the more complex designs the pen works best.

Once you are done laying the beads, fill the small spray bottle with water, and spray over your design about four to five times from approximately four inches away. Let it dry about an hour, then flip it over and spray the other side and dry for an additional hour. This will ensure when that your design is removed all the beads hold securely together.

Is It Fun?

What we love about this set is that it removes the mess and the stress of beaded art. You don't need glue, you don't need heat, all this kit requires is a little spray of water. Plus, it will certainly appeal to its target audience-girls ages 6 and up, who will enjoy the satisfaction of making these almost full-proof adorable beaded creations.

Who It’s For

The Aquabeads Starter Set is for ages 6 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

Every now and again a bead may stray from where you'd like it placed. Just take your time and grab it to move it around.

Two additional bonus templates are included in the instructions guide but they require additional beads to complete, which are sold separately.

You'll need some kind of plastic wrap to cover the bead tray; no lid is included.
